On Wednesday 24 November, the first reading of a Ten Minute Rule Bill for epilepsy took place in the House of Commons. The bill is called the Ten Minute Rule Bill on Epilepsy and Related Conditions (Education and Health Services) (Bill 112).

The UK government has now published its comprehensive spending review. Epilepsy Action is, as always, monitoring these changes and we aim to protect the interests of those living with epilepsy. We will be responding to consultations and taking other action as required.
We are taking a whole new look at what we do online for children and young people. We want to deliver a clear and well targeted online resource for those with epilepsy. To do the best possible job, we need to consult with children and young people with epilepsy, their brothers and sisters, and parents and carers.
Earlier this year, the ‘Best Value, Better Care – Commissioning Epilepsy Services’ conference took place in London.
The resource pack produced following the conference is now online. The pack includes a video of the day, transcripts of all of the presentations and a quick check list for commissioners. You can find the pack on the Long Term Conditions Delivery Support Team’s website.
Members of Parliament will be raising awareness of epilepsy on Tuesday (12 October) with a debate in Westminster Hall.
The debate will be on epilepsy services in the NHS. It will be started by Paul Maynard MP (Blackpool North and Cleveleys). Paul has epilepsy and was recently chosen by Epilepsy Action to be one of our vice-presidents.
Paul will do an opening speech and other MPs will intervene and make short speeches. So far, 10 MPs have said they want to speak.
