We fight to improve the lives
of everyone affected by epilepsy

...gaining a blackbelt in Taekwondo. When i was at school i had a complete lack of co-ordination and confidence due to epilepsy and my mother and father took us to alton towers as a treat in 1990 there was a new ride opening when we was there called the thunder looper and frank bruno and ulrika jonsson who was the weather girl for ITV at the time and i got the opportunity to meet frank bruno who i had watched boxing and thanks to him i started kickboxing when i left school so the bullying would not continue and eventually started doing taekwondo which i got a blackbelt in and as we know frank bruno has had a hard time suffering from depression as do a lot of people with epilepsy as i did at school and often i would leave school in tears after being bullied. The bulling became more of a problem than my epilepsy so i found a Thai-boxing club and my confidence grew as well as my co-ordination and I thought my thai boxing days would have to stop as i had status epilepsy after only being at the club for six months as i passed my driving test in June and i had to surrender my driving licence as soon as i had a seizure as i started thai boxing when i could drive myself there and my father would take myself there as it was a ten mile journey and when i went back i obviously had to be more careful but eventually the couple who ran the club seperated and neither of them felt they could run the club anymore.I started to look for other martial arts to do and that is when i started to do tae kwon do and eventually ended up being a assistant instructor and running the club on my own while the main instructor was doing another club on the same night.Whilst i was training in tae kwon do and being seizure free at that time i eventually got a second degree in karate kickboxing.I think now looking back i was rebelling against my epilepsy as i did not want it to hold me back in life and i even did a bungee jump to try to prove i could do what other's without epilepsy can do.I have been self employed since i was 19 years old and at 36 years old i am still self employed and have two lovely children and on the 30th of March 2012 it was my wifes and myself tenth anniversary. After having status epilepsy 3 years ago i stopped doing martial arts for a while and last year i started to do a different style of tae kwon do which is the one that is in the olympics and i am about half way to blackbelt. The two different styles of taekwondo are completely different. Lots of people had said i look younger than 14 years old but now people think i look older than i might because of my lack of hair as my kids say.
